]]> Mon Nov 2 2009 Unstan, Orkney Islands, Mainland, Scotland http://rockartuk.fotopic.net/c1774998.html This Orkney-Cromarty stalled chambered cairn (HY21SE 5, link below) was unroofed for a very long time. Later the chamber was roofed in concrete and the mound was turfed. The lintel of the side cell, which is a replacement, bears a number of runes and the drawing of a bird from a probably more recent date and certainly not belonging to the prehistoric rock art tradition. A nice photograph of the decorated lintel, taken by Lesley Gray in December 2003, is at the core of this collection. Ian Hobson visited and photographed the cairn in June 2004. In October 2009, Bruce McAdam donated a photograph of the Historic Scotland Information Board. Thanks all! There is (much!) more information on the TMA and Orkneyjar websites (links below). Later on, the RCAHMS re-named the sites traditionally to the farms on which land they are. The following NMRS-files refer to the primary name "Allt A' Mhoirneas": NN63NW 12; alt. name: Morenish, first reported by Feather in 1965. A boulder, 2x1.8x0.6m with 10 cups. No photos yet; NN63NW new-2; A large stretch of bedrock with one cup. Discovered and photographed by Tiompan in October 2009. It could well be that this panel will be re-named to Rynachulig or Blarliargan when it is incorporated into Canmore by the RCAHMS in 2010. In the opinion of the RA-team, only the depressions on the first photo (A) could be genuine cups. All the others are most likely natural features (see the discussion on BRAB, link below). This collection is placed on BRAC for completeness. Thanks, Pat! There is no description of this panel in the NMRS-file but Tiompan described it in his DES-report as: "An outcrop with two cup-marks". The gridref given in the NMRS-file is of the building(s) alongside the road. The cup-marked outcrop's gridref is NN 60771 35506 (see link to Streetmap below). Ta George!
